WHAT IS AUTHENTIC KASHMIRI PASHMINA?

Authentic Kashmiri Pashmina is the rarest and finest natural luxury fibre in the world, revered for centuries by royalty, statesmen, and connoisseurs of true craftsmanship. It is hand-crafted exclusively in Kashmir using ultra-fine wool obtained from the Changthangi goat, a rare breed found in the extreme high-altitude regions of Ladakh.

True Pashmina is hand-spun, hand-woven, and protected under the Government of India’s Geographical Indication (GI) Act. It cannot be mass-produced, machine-woven, or manufactured outside Kashmir — any such product is technically and legally not Pashmina.

Kepra represents four generations of Pashmina manufacturing heritage, devoted exclusively to producing 100% genuine, GI-certified Kashmiri Pashmina. We do not deal in blends, substitutes, or commercial imitations — only the original craft, preserved as it has been for generations.

 What Makes Pashmina Truly Unique?

Authentic Pashmina possesses qualities that no other wool in the world can replicate:

  • Ultra-fine fibre below 16 microns, finer than human hair, giving Pashmina its unmatched softness

  • Exceptional warmth with feather-light weight, making it breathable yet insulating

  • Hand-spun on traditional charkhas, a process that machines cannot replicate

  • Hand-woven on wooden looms in Kashmir, preserving the natural integrity of the fibre

Each Pashmina piece is the result of weeks — sometimes months — of skilled human labour, knowledge, and tradition passed down through generations.

Why Most Online “Pashmina” Is Not Real

The majority of products sold online as “Pashmina” are not Pashmina at all. They are commonly:

  • Cashmere blends

  • Merino or other fine wools

  • Viscose, nylon, or synthetic mixes

  • Machine-woven fabrics produced outside Kashmir

Such products do not meet the fibre, process, or geographic criteria required for authentic Pashmina. They cannot legally or technically be called Pashmina, regardless of how they are marketed.

 Kepra’s Manufacturer Authority

Kepra is not a reseller, marketplace seller, or trading brand. Kepra is a registered Kashmiri Pashmina manufacturer, authorised under the Government of India GI Act.

This makes Kepra a primary source of Pashmina, not an intermediary. Our authority comes not from selling Pashmina — but from making it, preserving it, and being legally responsible for its authenticity.

If it is not GI-certified and made in Kashmir by an authorised manufacturer, it is not real Pashmina.
